The General Council of Cheirology was founded by I.Oxenford in 1899 and governs and regulates awards, title and accreditation of the art of Cheirology. It is formed from eminent practitioners, academics and others concerned with the standards and ethics of the art throughout Europe and abroad. Election to its board of Governors is by vote and recommendation of existing members. The Council awards scholarships to students and practitioners for research projects approved by them and issues qualifying certification and licences for both practice and teaching the general public.


The Council while not wishing to go into elaborate detail, wishes it to be known that in line with sub regulation 1 of the Council and the findings of the extraordinary meeting convened by members in January 1999, the following persons have been found guilty of offences and struck from the Register. These persons are no longer qualified to practice Cheirology, nor may they teach or cause others to teach or represent, in any form whatsoever, the art or practices of Cheirology. Such ban shall extend for a minimum period of 5 (Five) Years from January 1 of this year.(2000) Copies of this notice are to be displayed at the noticeboards of every one of our affiliate and member associations both here and overseas.

The explanatory sub pages to the above were provided by E.Hertzog & representatives of our affiliate groups. These will be amended, updated or added to as needed in line with the developement of the legal actions being undertaken against certain of the above named people.

    Sub Regulation 1 governs the following provisoes:

    • Conduct unbecoming to a professional Cheirologist in regard to either members of the general public or students placed in their charge.
    • Libellous statements concerning members of the Cheirological Society and/or other member groups particularly those made with the intentions of self aggrandisement.
    • The teaching of practices or analytical procedures considered incompatible to the practice or study of Cheirology and which have not been subject to sufficient verification by senior members .

      Sub Paragraph 1/III governs the following:

    • Spurious claims of authenticity
    • Idiosyncratic representation or methodology likely to deceive clients.
    • Categorisation or stereotyping of clients , the result of which is to suggest a limit to a persons capabilities or possibilities for self development or free will.
    • The assumption be it tacit or not, of powers, forces or capabilities outside of a clients control which serve to direct his actions, words or thoughts in manners which only a practitioner of Cheirology is claimed to be able to avert.
    • Financial deception or misrepresentation.
    • Condemnation or stricture levelled against others designed to bring advantage to its propagator.
    • Conduct or words serving to bring the art of Cheirology into disrepute.
    • Claiming to be able to predict the future
    • The usage of unsuitable terms such as 'Palmistry' to describe or represent the Cheirological science and art.
    • The use of unsuitable symbols or representations particularly those regarded as offensive to other races, creeds or beliefs.

The General Council reserves the right to suspend any member found guilty of any of the above offences after due inquiry and examination of offered evidence. The minimum penalty for such offence being a suspension for the period of five years. Subsequent reinstatement may occur after due examination by the Council and with the recommendation of at least two ordinary members.
